Macanudo Cigars

Macanudo Cigars - a brand of cigars produced by General Cigar Company in the Dominican Republic. The Macanudo cigar is noted for its light flavor and light (or claro) Connecticut wrapper, but is also available in a darker Maduro wrapper.

These handmade cigars belong to one of the most popular tobacco brands in the USA. They were first made in 1968 in Jamaica. Now they are produced by General Cigar, both in Jamaica and in the Dominican Republic.

Except for the Vintage Range, which is produced only in Jamaica, all cigars use Connecticut Shade wrappers, grown on the company's farms in the Connecticut Valley. The binder is Mexican, and the filler from blends of Jamaican, Mexican, and Dominican tobacco.
 

Macanudo cigars, one of the most popular brands in the USA

Macanudo was originally the name of a brand produced in Guatemala by the makers of the Cuban brand Punch. In 1971, General Cigar, which had acquired rights to the name outside of Cuba, introduced a completely distinct Macanudo as a brand in itself.

It was developed in Jamaica under the leadership of Ramón Cifuentes, a veteran of the Cuban cigar manufacturer Partagas. Production moved from Cuba after the 1959 revolution, first to Jamaica, then to the Dominican Republic in October 2000.
